Glitz, Glamour and Chocolate!
White House Correspondents’ Dinner has become a week of events – parties, press junkets, dinners, lunches and other events, designed to bring celebrities, D.C. power players, media and other notable personalities together. Last night, Capitol File threw a huge closing, star-studded bash at the Mayflower Hotel, complete with a high concentration (500) of beautiful, glamorous people; great music flooding from the ballroom, media lining the entryway and a many other little surprises along the way. From the hours of 10pm until 2am, people filed into the lobby and ballrooms to experience what is one of Capitol File’s best parties of the year.
My boyfriend and I were exhausted from Gold Cup. After an hour-and-a-half nap, we cleaned up (fairly well) and headed off to the Mayflower for early drinks and a light dinner at Town and Country. Upon finishing, the party was in full swing; media lining the entryway, pink lights and swaths of silk cloths sweeping the hallways and DJ Cassidy’s music filling the entire area. Bars and sponsor areas lined the walls, leading up to the dessert room, which in my opinion, was the ”Pièce de résistance” of the event :) Edward Marc (whom I feel rivals all other chocolatiers I am aware of) sponsored an entire luxe spread of his most decadent chocolates. From raspberry and champagne truffles, to chocolate lollipops in the shape of the Capitol, to Bing-branded chocolate bars, I had never been more elated, inspired or more confident to visit this room a few times
In the main ballroom, the energy of the crowd was amazing. And, it was only confirmed by the smiles on all of my friends’ faces. With the music spinning and the drinks flowing, celebrity sightings were only icing on the cake. Spotted before I left: Wolf Blitzer, Gayle King, Mary J. Blige, Brett and Amy Baier and a few more.
Big shout outs go to: Donna Donella, Wendy Gordon, Aba Kwawu, Kate Michael (whom I saw in the press area), Andy Baldwin (whom I only saw on the red carpet), Awilda Ronemous, Mel Davis, Tommy McFly, Jennifer Blacker and many more for making this event all the more fun!
It will be hard to top this party next year
What I wore: BCBG one-sleeved assymetrical navy silk dress with white embellished belt. Shoes were silver and chrome high-heeled Guess sandals. Accessories: silver sliver drop earrings, silver coiled cuff, 10-carat crystal cocktail ring and a patent-leather turquoise clutch.
Writer’s Note: When I am invited to a party, I am always honored and humbled, as although there might be 500 people on the guest list, it’s 500 of the “best of the best” of D.C. and beyond, and they feel I deserve an invite. And, the only reason why I even post about my experiences on these events is to keep my west coast friends (and beyond) up to date on east coast life. (I felt compelled to say this, due to interesting statements made by undisclosed people who feel differently.)
